Akamai, in the Hawaiian language, means ‘smart, clever or possessing savior-faire’, which is truly how I feel about the Rottweiler.
‘Akamai’ officially became the registered name of my kennel in 1999, the same year I became a member of the Canadian Kennel Club and the Rottweiler Club of Canada.
Our kennel became Permanently Registered with the Canadian Kennel Club in January 2010. So what does that mean? It means that we have fulfilled the requirements of the CKC which are 1.) we are registered members in good standing of the CKC for more than 10 years and 2.) we have bred 5 or more dogs who have earned CKC granted titles and 3.) we have NEVER been subjected to disciplinary action by the CKC.
Together since 1995, my dogs and I have learned the ins and outs of the dog world, be it in conformation or obedience.
My dogs enjoy a life of luxury at home with myself, my partner Jamie, and the loving hands of my 4 children always patting them, tossing them toys, and now as the kids are getting older, they are helping with the feeding and general care of the dogs and the puppies we raise.
My main interest lies with obedience training and trailing and it has been my focus since I began training with my first dog, a Golden Retriever named Jessie in 1995. I got hooked. I also got hooked on the Rottweiler while attending my first set of obedience classes with Jessie. I knew that was the breed for me, and so the story goes ……….
