Akamai, in the Hawaiian language, means ‘smart, clever or possessing savior-faire’, which is truly how I feel about the Rottweiler.

‘Akamai’ officially became the registered name of my kennel in 1999, the same year I became a member of the Canadian Kennel Club and the Rottweiler Club of Canada. 

Our kennel became Permanently Registered with the Canadian Club in January 2010.  So what does that mean?  It means that we have fulfilled the requirements of the CKC which are 1.) we are registered members in good standing of the CKC for more than 10 years and 2.) we have bred 5 or more dogs who have earned CKC granted titles and 3.) we have NEVER been subjected to disciplinary action by the CKC.

Together since 1995, my dogs and I have learned the ins and outs of the dog world, be it in conformation or obedience.

My dogs enjoy a life of luxury at home with myself, my partner Jamie, and the loving hands of my 4 children always patting them, tossing them toys, and now as the kids are getting older, they are helping with the feeding and general care of the dogs and the puppies we raise.

I have always considered my dogs to be my pets first and foremost, so they have always lived in my home, with my skin-children.  They lay on the couch and on the bed and they ‘Hoover’ up all of the crumbs the kids drop on the floor.  Because the dogs live in our home, our litters will be very limited and carefully planned out. They will also be raised inside our busy house where socialization is of prime importance

My main interest lies with obedience training and trailing and it has been my focus since I began training with my first dog, a Golden Retriever named Jessie in 1995. I got hooked.  I also got hooked on the Rottweiler while attending my first set of obedience classes with Jessie.  I knew that was the breed for me, and so the story goes ……….

I would like to send out special thanks for the support and MAJOR amounts of help over the years from my obedience club, Cal K9, mainly the 2 trainers what have helped me the most, Jackie Hastie and Pauline Baldwin.  Without them I would be nowhere ……
 
All of our dogs will be temperament tested and receive their health clearances along with numerous titles before they are ever bred. 
 
In 2005 we whelped our first litter using the ‘Akamai’ prefix, out of our foundation bitch Jewel.  She was a great start for our kennel, and we now look to moving forward with new and different lines and seeing how we can do our best to improve on what we have already started.  We breed seldomly, only when we are ready to take on a new puppy in our home.  Thus we plan out our litters well in advance in the hopes of breeding the best possible puppies
We are members of the Canadian Kennel Club and the Rottweiler Club of Canada and we adhere to the code of ethics of the clubs with regards to our breeding practices.
